Where's the best place to mount my WIFI router?
I live in a 2 story house and my office and wifi router are both upstairs. I'm trying to set it up so my xbox360 can also access my router but it's downstairs.
How do I jump about getting the best signal?
My router is a Linksys WRT54GS (using that most recent firmware).

Its is best to mount it where you take little digital interference ( Away from other devices)
Mount the router away from any large metal objects. Try not to have too much stuff beneath it. Arrange the antennas so that they point horizontally, within the direction of most of your house. So if the router is on the west side of your house, point the antenna east.
How are you planning to connect the xbox360 to your wireless network? The cheapest way is to seize the cheapest wireless bridge, access point, or router, and configure it as a pure bridge, connected to your existing wireless network. Then connect the xbox360 to that (use a LAN port if it's a router, and make sure it's set not to route and DHCP is stale in the router).
use it upstairs on a high table or any elevated place .. the higher is the router the better signal you get.
Ever hear of dd-wrt ?? it can increase your router signal
I will say mount it with within the range of what the router can put out.
I think you should know how to connect your xbox where your router is right now.
From it self upstairs it should be better.

Half way between would be best, away from any metal objects between the floors. Also, if going "up/down" floors near the wireless, try putting it's antennas horizontal instead of vertical. Same for any other external antenna trying to connect.
