Quests ARE the best approach to level up. Go to www.wowhead.com and look at the zones. It will bring up to date you the approx level of each zone. You didn't register your race so I don't know if Horde or Alliance.
This is the guide for you ,you can just read it ,hope it can give you some help:
Tame your first pet at level 10 when you receive the ability to tame. This may seem to be a little confusing at first, but simply right-click onto the beast you want to train, and then click the "tame beast" button on your goings-on bar. Right clicking will select the beast in need initiating combat with it. When the beast is tamed, describe it by right clicking on its icon and choosing "name." You hold your first pet!
Solo all of the quests as much as possible. While grouping for quest may complete them faster, you will lose experience points that way. Group only for quest where you have to acquire an item or two, a named non-player character (NPC), or for recommended group quest.
Get a lot of rest saved up by going 2 or 3 days minus playing. Kills made on rest give double experience points and let you stratum twice as fast.
Join groups for instances as often as possible. Instances provide high experience points, and hunters are valuable additions to groups. You'll also unite plenty of players by grouping who can help you later near group quests.
Tame a variety of different beast to become your pet. Different beasts come with their own special ability, and your hunter will learn how to train other pets those abilities.
Learn the skills to be self sufficient. Fishing and cooking for food, skinning and leather working for gear, or mining and engineering for gunsmithing. Hunters are masters of the harsh environment and need to learn skills to survive within the wilderness.
Decide the spec you want your hunter to be, either Beast Master, Marksmanship or Survival. Beast Master is considered best for quest solo, while Marksmanship is preferred for grouping because of its buffs and Silencing Shot. You can change your spec at any time for a small fee of gold ingots to the Hunter Trainer.
Join a guild. Guilds can offer help to low stratum players, provide a ready pool of players for grouping, and be a source of valuable information when quest. Some guilds will even help you pay for a mount.
Wear gear that have mostly agility, intelligence and stamina. These are the most important stats for a hunter, and hunters are particularly gear dependent. If the drops you capture from quests and instances are lacking, supplement your gear near purchases from the auction house.
Keep your training up to date. Visit the Hunter Trainer at least every two levels, and other buy all of the training available. Most skills are only available on the even-numbered level, so make sure to train at those levels.

Questing is the easiest way to smooth. But if you get really sick of it, have a high level friend run you through dungeons.
