Where are the best places to call on contained by amsterdam?

I'm planning on going to amsterdam next weekend (27th to 1st) for my 18th birthday. I want to party and own fun? Just wondering if anyone has been, and where on earth would you reccomend going for a good night out, and places to drop by in the day?
Answers:
Hi i would recomend that you go to the red restrained district i know it may be abit off putting for some but they have some of the best clubs/pubs surrounded by holland its worth the visit and then if you catch abit peckish for some thing it will most likley be at the club or a few mionutes walk
Big G pretty much summed up everything I was going to read out.

Take a boat tour on the canals, visit Anne Frank's house. Boom Chicago is a well brought-up comedy club with drinks and food. Pretty funny and it's "American comedy."

Tour the streets and shops near where on earth you board the canals.
For night out, dress hip and head to Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein where you will find frequent clubs and bars to explore.

For daytime - things I would not miss are:

-Bike tour of the city, Amsterdam is pretty small and bike is the preferred mode of transport as it is ideally flat and there are bike path everywhere, there are also companies that offer city tours by bike, great instrument to see lots of the city in short amount of time.

-The Anne Frank house, go precipitate to avoid the long lines.

-A canal boat tour. This is the best way to see the architecture of the conduit houses, trips are only 1 hour long. There are many boat tour companies as you bearing away from the Central Train Station on your left side, most take simply the same route. I recommend the one which is situated between "Dam square" and the "Munt plein" along the Rokin street (the Tram stop is "Spui"). When you look at a street map it will make watertight sense, trips run all day long hourly.

-The red desk light district (at night of course), it's fascinating and a must see. Go within the evening after dark, it is very risk-free, there are hundreds of tourists alike- male/female/grandmothers/etc. all going for a glance, and the Amsterdam police are everywhere always.

Shopping
There is an interesting place just aft the Konings Palace in Dam square called "Magna Plaza", form of an upscale indoor gallery mall with a touch of everything including souveniers. There is also a great cafe there called "Ovidius".

There is a long street extending from Dam Square up to the Munt plein call "Kalverstraat" (one street over from the Rokin) this is pedestrian only and lined next to all kinds of shops, one of the largest shopping areas of Amsterdam. Turn right on the Spui straat and walk towards the Koningsplein for some more upscale shopping.

For an insiders guide to all things Amsterdam, when you are contained by Leidseplein, look for a place called "Boom Chicago" back surrounded by the corner and grab one of their free city guides. Probably the most concise and accurate detail about adjectives the things you wanted to know about Amsterdam but be afraid to ask. Boom Chicago is a comedy dinner theatre with American comedians doing improv, they label lots of fun of the Dutch and also of American tourists, they can be quite good and is another nice substitute for an evening. Be sure to book tickets ahead of time if you plan to go as they normally get rid of out days in advance.
